Brooks Wine is a living tribute to its founder, Jimi Brooks. When Jimi died unexpectedly in 2004, his eight-year-old son Pascal became the youngest winery owner in the country. A group of friends and fellow winemakers stepped in to finish Jimi's final vintage, and his sister Janie Brooks Heuck took over leadership, volunteering her time to protect what her brother had started.
Two decades on, Brooks is still family-owned and independent, and it is led largely by women: more than 75% of the managerial team. Janie remains Managing Director, with Claire Jarreau as winemaker.
The estate in the Eola-Amity Hills is a Demeter Certified Biodynamic® vineyard and winery, going beyond eliminating herbicides, pesticides, synthetic fertilizers and fungicides. Brooks is a certified B Corp, has been a member of 1% for the Planet since 2019, and plants trees with every order through Ecologi. The house is best known for Riesling, unusual in a valley that made its name on Pinot Noir.

Every winter they cut off 90% of the vine
So every winter someone walks the rows and cuts away about 90% of last year’s growth by hand. What is left is a few one-year-old canes tied to a wire, and every bud on them becomes a cluster in the autumn. The size of the vintage is settled in January, months before there is anything green to look at. These are Pommard Pinot Noir vines planted in the 1970s.
